Household water systems will either operate at low or high pressure. If you have a low pressure system (such as an un-pumped gravity fed system) then you can only use low pressure taps and showers. If you have a high pressure system (a pumped system, a combi-boiler or an unvented pressurised system such as a Megaflo) then you can use high or low pressure taps and showers.

Many toilets now come with a “rimless flush”. This is where the traditional rim around the top inside of the toilet pan is removed. This makes the toilet much easier to keep clean and is far more hygienic than traditional rimmed toilets.

A pop-up waste is the more traditional type of waste where the plug is opened and closed by a rod at the back of the tap. Clicker wastes (much more popular now) are operated by pushing down on the plug to open and close it. If your basin has an overflow you can use a slotted or universal waste. If the basin does not have an overflow you will need an unslotted, free-flow or universal waste.
